About School

The post independence development included, among mans things in Independent India, the establishment of schools for expansion of education among common people, specially of rural areas. It is evident from the establishment and commencenes of the Dandipur Manmatha Hazra Vidyamandira in the year, 1970 at Dandipur, a remote village in the district of Paschim Medinipur.
Problems were many Inconveniences were immense. The village belonged largely to the back-ward class community, known commonly a scheduled caste and scheduled tribe. Poverty, illiteracy, obstinacy and illogicality are there common traits. In the face of all those odds, some unnoticed and unsung educationists came forward in the year 1969 and succeeded almost within a year to establish and commence this vidyamandira.
Historically speaking, Sri Ramnath Konar of Dalpatipur, an adjacent village of Dandipur was in search of a job after his graduation in 1969. And he looked towards organising a school in his neighbouring village for his own engagement as well as for the enlightenment of the rural kids. He approached directly to the then well-to-do personality, Late Panchanan Hazra of Dandipur who had a name and fame for his generosity, benevolence and love for education. It was the fortune the Dandipur villagers that Panchananbabu responded readily to the appeal of Sri Konar and started thinking in terms of setting up a school in memory of his beloved demised father, late Manmatha Hazra. He brought it to the notice of his mother, Late Nirmala Hazra who too was equally generous and wasted no time to direct her son Panchanan to comply with the appeal.
Hereafter, Panchananbabu proceeded to do his historic duty. He exercised his intelligence to convene a meeting with the villagers to seek their formal approval to the scheme. The meeting was held in the village primary school with all types of people of the intertoined villages like Dandipur, Udaypur, Sukchandrapur, Shyamsundarpur Bera and Marichhya. And the meeting welcomed the proposal with great delight and promised firmly to extend all sorts of cooperation to the concerned educational venture.
Thence the vista for establishing the proposed school opened. Exteemed Panchanan Hazra started completing, on the one hand, the formalities regarding donation of his land and property in black and white towards the concerned cause and constructing, on the other hand the school-binding at his own cost. Both were done soon and the most coveted ‘Dandipur Manmatha Hazra Vidyamandir’ started its holy journey on ............. 1970 in a 4 (four) roomed cottage birth with grass-straw mixed muddy-walls, bamboo-props, tarpanlis-shed and bamboo-fence. Initial accessories like black-boards, benches, almirah, books and paper etc. Of minimum need were all supplied by Panchananbabu humbly excepting a few other things donated or provided by the situational enthusiast.
By the grace of God and by irrtue of the positive efforts of Late Panchanan Hazra, the school going kids of the localities chance to have now the opportunity of their own home-school instead of walking gymnastically and wearily a distance of 2-3 miles through a rough, muddy and slippery route to reach the closest schools like Baroda Banipith and Kharar Aurobinda Vidyamandir.
However, In 1970, the school had only two classes – class-V & class-VI with Mr. Satter Ali Khan of Marichhya as Hwadmaster, Mr. Ramnath Konar Dalpatipur and Mr. Sunil Paul of ............. as assistant teachers, Mr. Asit Ranjan Chakraborty of Dandipur as a clerk and Mr. Tinkori Nayek of Dandipur as a peon. The entire staff served the new-born school without any pay and the valued guidance of the then managing committee headed by the most active an beloved secretary, Late Panchanan Hazra and reinforced by other members colleages like

Late Panchananbabu was of such enthusiasm that he explorted all his known resources to earn the recognition and approval of the secondary education directorate of Government of West Bengal for the school at an earliest opportunity. And it was with the active help and cooperation of his two near relatives like Mr. Pankaj Roy of Mayal, his sister’s husband and Mr. Santinath Ghosh of ............, his brother-in-law that Panchananbabu succeeded to secure the most wanted recognition and approval on the said directorate in 1972 with retrospective from ................ 1970.
In the month of February of that gala year, 1972, Mr. Netai Chand Kundu, BA of village was appointed an additional teacher to strengthen the teaching staff of the school. Tuition fees were then introduced nominally. But such fees would not be and could not be collected regularly and the staff shored the collected money pro-sata, until and unless the government grants were available on regular basis. It is to be noted that in 1984, the Managing Committee of the school introduced next two Higher classes – class-vii & class viii and appointed Mr. Anil Kr. Bag, B. Sc. Of Mansuka as an assistant teacher. After a long tenacious efforts of the then managing committee members like....

Late Panchanan Roy, the secretary of the Managing Committee and with the active help of Mr. Jahar Santra, Secretary, CPI (M), Ghatal Sub-division, the school govt recognition of there ext two higher classes – class vii & class viii in 1986 affix 14 years from 1972, although the roll-strength on the school was limited to 60/62 only.
Any way, the school authority had however, to face then a dilemma of choosing one of the two alternatives suggested by the education directorate – (1) negating the existing provision of one representation of the Donor-family on the Managing Comittee and (2) deleting the name of Manmatha Hazra, the father of the donor, from the name of the school. The donor-family opted voluntarily for the first alternative and the name of the school remained as Dandipur Manmatha Hazra Vidyamandira.
It was misfortune of the school that the most agile and energetic man like Panchanan Hazra breathed his last on February 2, 1990. All the school associates day with a completion poems and paintings got highly moved the students and teachers arounded over the sad demise. They all observed the on the departed soul of panchanan Hazra. A great vacuum. At this juncture, Mr. Prafulla Kumar Bangal of was chosen the secretary of the school. As per tradition shown by Late Panchanan Hazra, Mr. Bangal discharged his responsibility very seriously and devoted his mind fully to the development of the school. On his initiative, a noble lady, Arhalata Devi by name, donated the school a considerable measure of her land adjacent to the school and enlarged thereby the area of the school as was necessary to meet the increasing institutional needs. On expiry of his secretary ship, Mr. Bangal was succeeded by a most polished and ................... man like Mr. Prabir Chakraborty of Dandipur who continued existing all out efforts for the development of the school.
Ups and downs as experienced by the school included unfortunately the demise of Asit Ranjan Chakraborty on 18.11.1976 who served the school as a clerk for a long time since 1970. The gap, so caused, was of course, filled by an active young man like Mr. Anup Kumar Doloi of Barada in the same year.
Of other important events in the history of the school, the following are work mentioning :

(2) Retirement of the next Headmaster, Mr. Balaram Singha on 2004.
(3) Appointment of Mr. Asit Kumar Bag as the teacher in charge of the school with effect from 2004
(4) Regular appointment of Mr. Saibal Kumar Ghosh as headmaster of the school with effect from 9.8.2003
It goes without saying that the golden era of the school started under illustrative Headmastership of Mr. Saibal Kumar Ghosh.
